About

4 years ago I moved on from teaching in a high school, came to Chicago, and started a PhD in Sociology. I still can’t believe I did it. And I’m also still consistently amazed by the unpredictable arc that I’ve taken since being here. There’s no way I could have ever foreseen the way things are turning out. And, it could very well be in the end that I would have them no other way.
So why the beach tent? A couple years ago the joke was that I’d moved so often and none of my friends had ever seen my place to the point they were convinced I lived in a tent on the beach in Rogers Park. I think no metaphor could have fit me (or continues) to fit me more perfectly. But with the dawn of a new phase of my graduate school and a yearning to create a spot where I can hunker down for awhile, I bring you this new(er) beach tent. It’s a little shinier, possibly a little fancier, but ultimately still a tent.
I’m fairly sure I’ll always be a tent dweller. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be the Deluxe Family Version that sleeps 10 and has a covered front porch area, now does it?
My favorite all time picture.

Welcome to Chicago in February. On days that I'm waxing eloquent, I would look at this picture and proclaim something like, That Time of Year](http://mybeachtent.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/lake-michigan-winter-2-300x225.jpg)
